A number of student organizations at West Virginia University sponsored a concert benefit at De Lazy Lizard on High Street.

The band Soul Miners for Coal Miners performed Friday night. All proceeds went towards the Upper Big Branch Family Fund.

Local organizations and businesses helped out with a raffle including a signed basketball by the WVU Men's basketball team.

"I think it gets people to come here and a chance to get a social setting, listen to some good music and talk about what's going on. It's like therapy, getting a chance to express what's going on, maybe grieve a little bit," said CJ Elknap of Advantage West Virginia.

Organizers expect this event alone will raise $5,000 towards the Upper Big Branch Family Fund.
